The HLV Warriors opened the basketball season with a 53-50 win over Sigourney at home.

The Warriors began the game hot, with three unanswered scores on the board.  The Savages, however, battled back leading at the end of the first period.  The Warriors resumed their control of the game bringing the score to a 26 point tie at the half.

HLV largely controlled the second half taking back the lead early on.  Sigourney remained in the game until the final buzzer, always within a few points until tying the game at 49-49 with just over a minute left to play.  A Brandon Leonard three-pointer sealed the win for the Warriors.

On Friday, the Warriors will host Eddyville-Blakesburg before beginning a five-game road stand.

Elsewhere, the BGM Bears blasted Iowa Valley 72-11 at home.  The Bears will next host HLV on Dec. 11.
