East Iowa Herald: City Council Responds to Residents Mail: No to Speed Bumps City Council Responds to Residents Mail: No to Speed Bumps ================================================================================ Mitch Traphagen on 10/24/2009 03:58:00 VICTOR - The Victor City Council met in regular session on Thursday, Oct. 8, at City Hall. The first order of business was responding to letters sent by city residents regarding traffic problems on Williams St. Residents along the alley reported traffic problems have largely been resolved and requested no speed bumps be installed at this time. The council agreed unanimously with the residents, thus taking the issue off the table. Back on the table for another consecutive month was the issue of a request for a refund on sewer charges of $24,150 plus costs applied to C&S Enterprise. According to the city council minutes, the requested refund concerned an interpretation of a city ordinance concerning sewer rental charges for residences and businesses. Mayor Roger Pawlak stated the charge procedure has been the same for the past 30 or more years. Council members Joan Robinson and Dan Cavin motioned to deny the request and was supported by Mayor Pro-Tem Marla Faga. Council member Lynn Deneve voted against the motion, which ultimately carried. In other business, Halloween will happen on a tradition schedule this year with trick or treating scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The council also approved a change in the Iowa County Economic Development Commission to allow two representatives from the Iowa County Farm Bureau to serve on the commission. Also, the council agreed to pay costs not exceeding $2,000 to complete a handicapped accessible restroom at City Hall. The total estimated cost of the project is $3,000 with $1,500 coming from profit from the Victor Car Show last June. Nick and Judy Simmons are spearheading the project that includes a new water heater and moving some existing walls. Finally, the council unanimously agreed to purchase a sliding unit from the old fire department brush dump truck from Nick Nowotny for $1,000. In other news, the city has successfully smoke tested the sewers per Iowa Department of Natural Resources requirements. The next regular council meeting will be held on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
