East Iowa Herald: Bloethe donation will light up new Victor park Bloethe donation will light up new Victor park ================================================================================ Mitch Traphagen on 08/31/2009 02:28:00 The donation, made in the form of stock, will cover the outstanding expenses of the park and provide for one decorative light pole. The Victor City Council voted during the August 13 regular meeting to sell the stock in order to apply the proceeds towards those goals. Victor park committee organizer AJ Schnebbe also discussed operational issues involving the park such as emptying trash cans, general finances and equipment maintenance. The council will continue to grapple with the issue of water and dirt runoff at the south end of Harrison street in the city. According to discussion during the meeting, property owners to the south are unwilling to install on their private property measures to help control the problem. The cost for the city to manage the runoff by increasing the pavement of South Harrison St. is estimated to run as high as $25,000. Additionally, paving would require the city to move a sewer line. The council will further investigate costs and other options. The Victor Fun Day Car Show turned a profit of $1,500. Judy Simmons offered the funds to the city to make the City Hall restrooms handicap accessible. Simmons stated she would get cost estimates for the project and will update the council at a later meeting. A past due water bill is all that is holding up a beer permit for the Victor Casey’s store. The council voted to approve the permit renewal subject to satisfaction of the outstanding bill. In other news, the council voted to approve $1,000 in compensation to Edna Hedlund for filling in as the director for the congregate meals program after the resignation of the site director. There was no immediate word on plans to hire a new director. The next city council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10 at City Hall. Click here for council minutes.
