Despite the dour national news, in East Iowa, 2008 was full of excitement, optimism and accomplishments.

Locally, schools excelled in academics and athletics, parks were built in Victor and Marengo, businesses opened (and some closed) and everywhere was a "can do" spirit that epitomizes the Heartland of America.
