There’s something about that Brecht’s Bar & Grill sign on Eastern Avenue as you head north out of Marengo that stands out. Perhaps because it seems to be sitting there all alone? For some reason, it is memorable - at least it was for Charles Schwerpfeger (thanks for the call and the story - it was good to hear from you), Gary Rhinehart (thanks for dropping by and for the newspaper! That is so cool!), Joan Robinson (thanks for the note!), Annette Ehrenberger (I’m glad you like it! Thanks for the note and the kind words), Lesa Waddell (good “chatting” with you this weekend), Jeanne Kochuyt (you got it! Thanks for the note!), Gen Davis (thanks for the note and kind words!) and Kurt Kahler (who wins the location precision award for the week with the lat and long. I’ll bring your award the next time we’re in for some of your great shakes and fries).
We also have a few stragglers from last week’s photo of the bench in downtown Ladora: Bob and Joyce Burgmann (I’d love to hear the stories sometime) got it as did Vicky Schutt (thanks for the note) and, coming in with the “Mitch is an Idiot” award, Diane Cooling also nailed it with some great stories - but was inadvertently left out last week.
First a disclaimer for this week - for any 1970s adolescent males reading this, “chicks” refers to the kind with feathers. Sorry.
