If there is anything going on related to a train, Victor’s Ward Meyer would know about it. He’s also one of the few people around capable of hitching a short ride on one. That, perhaps, has something to do with him saving a train - and the town - from disaster once many years ago.
The view he had, as pictured last week, from the engine of an Iowa Interstate Railroad train was looking east at County Line Road in Victor.
Denise Van Otegham got it (thanks for the note - I’ll tell him right now: Ward! Stop by the post office sometime by 8:30 a.m. so Denise can say, “Good Morning!”) as did Jeanne Kochuyt (thanks for the note, Jeanne - and thanks, too, for the birthday wishes!) and Monte Wenger (Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!).
Having been raised in a farm town in rural Minnesota, the last thing I am is a city boy. My agricultural knowledge, however, is apparently a little thin - I have no idea what I would do with something like this. I do, however, know where I can buy one.
Where in East Iowa is this? Send your guess or a great leftover turkey recipe to P.O. Box 336, Victor, Iowa, 52347 or email where@eiherald.com.
