Kuesel, Hansen Compete in Junior Golf Tournaments
HLV golfers Bryce Kuesel and Jenna Hansen recently competed in Junior Golf Tournaments in Cedar Rapids and Waterloo. On July 17th both competed in a junior tournament at Airport National Golf Course in Cedar Rapids. Hansen competed in the 14-15 girls division and placed 3rd with an 83. Kuesel shot a 67 and finished tied for 5th in the 14-15 boys division.
On July 24th Kuesel took part in the Waterloo Jr. Open at Irv Warren Golf Course. He finished tied for 4th with a round of 75.
Both Hansen and Kuesel will play in the Iowa City Golf Association Jr. Tournament at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City on August 7th.
Three Warriors Named to All-District Baseball Team
Three members of the HLV baseball team were named to the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association 1A All-District team. Senior Benj Timm was named to the Southeast District first team as an infielder. Junior Bryce Hasley was named to the Southeast District second team as an outfielder. Sophomore Sheldon Gryp was also named to the Southeast District second team as a pitcher.
Four HLV Athletes to Compete at Collegiate Level this Fall
HLV graduates Rachel Pirkl and Kallie Warnick will be playing college volleyball this fall. Pirkl will be competing for Wartburg College in Waverly. She is a senior who can play the back row, libero and also plays as a setter. She is a Business Management Major. She is the daughter of Paul and Patty Pirkl of Victor. Warnick will be playing for Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. She is a sophomore who will play outside hitter. She is a Nursing Major. She is the daughter of Jerry and Arlene Warnick of Victor.
Former HLV football standouts Sean Campbell and Saxon Van Buren will be playing college football this fall. Campbell will be playing for Loras College in Dubuque. The 6’1”, 225 pound sophomore will be playing linebacker. Campbell is a Physical Education Major who is the son of Roger and Ellen Campbell of Victor. Van Buren will be a freshman at Grandview College in Des Moines. This will be the first season for the football program at Gandview. The 5’7”, 185 pound Van Buren will play running back. He is undecided on a major. He is the son of Eric and Heidi Van Buren of Victor.
