Marvin L. Pexa
Marvin L. Pexa, 82, of Cedar Rapids , died Friday evening December 26 at St. Lukes Living Center West following an extended illness. Services to be held on Saturday January 3, 2009 at 10:30 am, Bethany Lutheran Church, 2202 Forest Dr. S.E. Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife Doris, son Ron (Linda) Pexa of Guernsey, daughter Deborah (Jim) Heitland of Marion, brother Melvin Pexa of Cedar Rapids, sister Mildred Ormiston of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren Michelle (Brian) Vaughan of Johnston, Amanda Pexa of Carbondale, IL, Jonathan Heitland of Marion Jamie Pexa, Jennifer Pexa and Katherine Pexa of Atkins and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Raymond Pexa of Waterloo and John Pexa of Marengo.
Marvin was born, with his twin brother Melvin, on April 2, 1926 on the rural farm of his parents, Frank B. Pexa and Maria Meinke Pexa, near Guernsey. He graduated from Guernsey High School in 1944 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany. Marvin was united in marriage to Doris Eichmeyer of Keystone on November 7, 1953 in Cedar Rapids. He was employed as a backhoe operator for Floyd McIlrath in Hartwick, Hennesey Brothers Construction and Bjornson Construction in Cedar Rapids and Brown and Dyer in Hiawatha. He started his own excavating business, Marv Pexa Construction , in 1967 retiring in 1989 . After retiring from the excavating business, Marv drove a school bus for the Cedar Rapids Community Schools and the courtesy car for the Bob Mickey dealership in Cedar Rapids.
Marv was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, VFW Post 788 and American Legion Post 298.
A memorial fund has been established.
