Richard Paul Meeks


Richard Paul Meeks, 72, of Brooklyn, passed away on April 11, 2008, at Brooklyn Community Estates.

The funeral was held on April 11 at the Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine.  Internment was at the National Cemetery in Vining.  The pallbearers were Josh Meeks, Terry Meeks, Butch Bringmann, Doug Horne, Scott Kolash and Logan Papesh.  Honorary pallbearers were Luke Papesh and Adam Papesh.  Rev. David Crow of the Christ United Methodist Church in Belle Plaine officiated the service.  Funeral arrangements were made by Hrabak Funeral Home.
Richard was born on June 6, 1935 in Hartwick, Iowa, to Jacob “Jake” Meeks and Anna Hayek Meeks.  He was a 1954 graduate of Hartwick High School and was a farmer and a driver for Mannatt’s.  He married Dixie Jacobs on Dec. 28, 1957, in Marengo.  The couple later divorced.  Richard enjoyed collecting toy tractors, especially John Deere.

He is survived by his children, Darrell and LeAnn Meeks, Don and Lisa Meeks, Dennis and Kaeleen Meeks, Delbert Meeks, all of Belle Plaine, and Joe and Kathryn Nerio of Lawton, Oklahoma.  He is also survived by his siblings, George and Linda Meeks, Helen Carlson, Edna Uchytil and Barbara Kann along with six grandchildren and his friend, Bette Allen.

His brother, Robert Meeks, and parents preceded him in death.

Russell LeRoy Walton


Russell LeRoy Walton, 73, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids on April 10, 2008.

The funeral was held on Monday, April 14 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Luzerne, with a visitation on April 13 at Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine.  Pallbearers were Junior Martin, Jay Hamilton, Drew Johnson, Steve Beck, Dan Bussey and Denny Grieder.  Music was provided by organist Arlene Taschner and vocalist Tracy Novak.  The Belle Plaine Fire Department attended the service and graveside military rites were conducted by the Jennings Bradshaw American Legion Post #39 of Belle Plaine.


Russell was born on February 18, 1935 in Albia, Iowa, to Fredrick Walton and Isabelle Larson Walton.  He was a 1954 graduate of Albia High School and spent 43 years as a refrigeration technician for Amana Refrigeration.  He also served his country as a U.S. Army medic from 1957 to 1959 and was a member of the Belle Plaine Fire Department for 27 years.


He is survived by his wife Nancy and his children Kim Hinschberger of Belle Plaine, Brenda Van Otegham of Victor, Sheila Bevins of Belle Plaine and Betsy Mitchell of Belle Plaine.  He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Joe and Jamie Hinschberger, Amy, Andrew, Jacob, and Jessica Van Otegham, Sierra, Tiffany, and Grant Bevins, Heather Walton and Zach Beatty, along with two step-grandchildren, Corey and Tiffany Mitchell, along with two great grandchildren, Kean and Kale Cambell and two step-great grandchildren, Evan Mitchell and Owen Ary.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Raymond Walton.
