Greg DeBrower, 42, of Victor, Iowa, died on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at his home.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 26, 2009, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Victor with Rev. Brian Shepley, pastor of the church, officiating. Music will be provided by Verabeth Bricker, organist and St. Bridget’s Choir. Casket Bearers will be Shane DeBrower, Joel Kelling, Bob McCombs, Brien Michalek, Paul Stults and Al Van Thournout. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Victor.
Friends may call at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church beginning 1 pm on Wednesday. A rosary service will be held 4 pm on Wednesday and the scripture service will be held 7 pm on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Greg DeBrower Memorial Fund.
The Smith Funeral Home of Victor is handling arrangements.
Greg was born on October 30, 1966, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Frank and Elizabeth DeMeulenaere De Brower. He was raised in Marion, Iowa and graduated from Linn-Mar High School with the Class of 1985.
On July 27, 1990, he was married to Cindy Wentland in Victor. The couple made their home in Victor and were the parents of four children. He had worked for Firestone Tire Company in Cedar Rapids and Sullivan Graphics in Marengo before working with the Victor Cooperative Telephone Company as a technician.
He was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Victor and served on the church council and taught Religious Education classes. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Victor. Greg enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and coaching soccer, basketball and baseball. He enjoyed playing rolle bolle and was instrumental in the development of the rolle bolle court in downtown Victor.
Greg was a loving family man and gracious friend. He was quick to lend a hand and eagerly shared his time and talents with his family, friends, and community. Greg’s genuine smile and natural wit warmed the hearts of those who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy DeBrower of Victor; four children, Randi, Reed, Cheyan and Tanner DeBrower, all of the family home; his mother, Betty DeBrower of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Jeff (Jana) DeBrower of Marion and Brad (Tresa) DeBrower, of Cedar Rapids; and one sister, Laura (Mark) Strait of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his father in 1993.
