MARENGO
-  Pennies for the Park is now within $10,000 of funds needed to make their vision a reality.  If you’ve been keeping track you may know that the pennies have really added up!

“We hope the community will rally around us with our remaining fundraisers to close the gap,” says Candi Schmieder, part of the Pennies for the Park team.

Don’t miss the auction on July 3rd right after the parade in the bandstand in the park.  Items to be auctioned are now on display in the old extension office on the corner of Court Ave. and Washington St. These include gift certificates for a chiropractic adjustment and for facials at Marengo Chiropractic, tickets to Blank Park Zoo, Iowa Speedway and the Des Moines Symphony, day passes at Wasserbahn Waterpark and Lost Island Waterpark, a Stand Mixer, 2 rounds of golf at Amana Golf Course, subscriptions to the East Iowa Herald and much more. Tom Sandersfeld will be the auctioneer.

“We have the auction July 3," says Schmieder.  "We are also going to be selling Schwan’s ice cream on July 3 with the help of local 4-H groups.  A free will donation brunch at PHAT Daddy’s where we can share larger pictures of the plans is also in the works,” says Schmieder, mentioning that a date for that has not yet been set.

According to Schmieder, here’s how the fundraiser breaks down so far:

Grants - Blaine Fund, Ahrens Foundation, Iowa County Community Foundation:  $42,500.00

Donations - Individuals & local businesses:  $12,435.31

Fundraisers - Gift cards, scrapbooking event, jewelry sales, sports picture sales, bake sale, pasta sales, bowling party, printer cartridges, coffee in the park, canister donations, cake pans, recycling, dance recital drink/gift sales:  $3,947.94

City of Marengo Brick Sales:  $22,000.00

Picnic in the Park:  $10,000.00

In kind donation:  $5,000.00

“We have advertised our goal as $100,000," says Schmieder. "That is what our equipment and installation will cost. We do have operating expenses too.” She estimates that $5,000 would be enough to cover that.

“We appreciate the community’s overwhelming support of our project. It is also a privilege to work with a new group of people dedicated to working to make our community better.  There have been many new and creative ideas generated to help us reach our goal."
