I am very honored to have been chosen to be the horoscope columnist for the East Iowa Herald. I hope you will enjoy my columns and essays, which will appear weekly. Good work with the caucus, folks! I look forward to the time I will be spending with you in this fine newspaper.
Big Changes
2008 brings a major shift of influence; the most pronounced change is Pluto’s entrance into the sign of Capricorn on January 27, heralding the initiation and manifestation of what was previously immaterial. Pluto will remain in Capricorn until 2024, marking two generations of newborns and steadily forcing many into the basic practicalities of life. Capricorn is not a sign of indulgence, but it does have a broad vision from on high. This will be a year of surprises, as well as sweeping changes in authority figures all over the globe.
We soberly begin the New Year with enormous conflict, and this is likely to escalate as the year unfolds. This isn’t coming out of nowhere, but know that what has previously been behind the scenes will now leap out for all to see, and the likely effect will be citizens taking the law into their own hands and rising above the state of fear that has been steadily taking hold in our consciousness.
We are entering a very powerful time. Knowledge is power, yes. But wisdom is the ultimate power. The more things change, the more they stay the same; we haven’t changed all that much, we’ve simply invented more toys. Whether or not we play nice is up to us. One thing is clear, though…bullies of any form are a danger to society. Don’t be one and don’t put up with one.
Long Trends
I was going through some of my old columns and found the year some amazing reminders regarding big, long lasting trends that still affect us even today. With the movement of the outer planets from one sign to another, influences that will shape an entire two generations are now being put into place.
While it is difficult to do any amount of long-term planning due to enormous instability of our globalizing world, we would be wise to turn our attention to the well being of our familial/social circles. Raging about politics and global issues with no action is a complete waste of time and engages us in all kinds of gnarly thinking.
While in Mexico, the advice to me was, “Don’t discuss religion, politics or football.” While we each have our opinions and protocols and needs and wants, decisive action is more important than ideals and slogans.
As we end the first decade of the 21st century, I think we can gauge the trends, if we are paying attention.
Simplify life. Need less. Participate more. Read the Desiderata. Remember who you are, and live it!
Aries (March 21- April 19): The New Moon in your sector of career yields unforeseen options you hadn’t considered. These new opportunities will pan out over the next couple of months and you will be able to see your way through to the next step with clarity. You also have a healthy dose of good luck, which helps a lot!
Taurus (April 20 – May 20): This earthy time gives you the boost you need, and the New Moon in your companion Earth sign Capricorn paves the way for you to begin a new path. If you are considering furthering your education, there is no better time than now. Gabby Mercury sails into your sector of relationships, so if you’re single the rest of this month could bring that spark of romance to you.
Gemini (May 21- June 20): Work work, work! This is a time for you to gain some significant ground financially, but it also demands that you work more. This is a good time to ask yourself if you are working too hard for your money and if you can make your money work for you! Keep distractions to a minimum and let ideas with substance guide you.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Oopsie! It looks like people close to you are a bit upset by something going on around you. Try as you might, you probably won’t be able to appease them, so keep a low profile. Make amends where they are necessary. You can’t afford to play both sides of the fence. Jupiter in your sector of relationships gives you a wider vision now, so use it!
Leo (July 23 – August 22): It’s already looking up…Jupiter newly ensconced in your sector of health and work gives you a much needed leg up! Stay focused and positive; there is nothing more winning than a Leo with a positive attitude! As the month unfolds you’ll feel genuinely appreciated. Go do your hair and feel good about yourself!
Virgo (August 23 – September 21): The New Moon in your companion Earth sign Capricorn brings focus into an area where you haven’t been able to discipline yourself. Watch what you say and do now, because you will see the results of your labors swiftly. Refrain from being critical or judgmental on any level. This is a time to be open to possibilities.
Libra (September 22 – October 23): Mercury sails into your fellow air sign Aquarius, filling you with ideas that glitter. Since you are moving into a period of time that brings sweeping changes to your home life/family, it’s good that you can focus on yourself and the quality of your own life. Others won’t have the time to pay attention, so give yourself the attention you need.
Scorpio (October 24- November 22): It looks like this month will be one of connecting, haggling, negotiating and visiting. Busy, busy, busy! You are unmovable in some ways, which will serve you well. Be sure that you don’t cancel yourself out, though. If something about your methodology needs to be changed, go about changing it for the better. You have plenty of support there.
Sagittarius (November 23 – December 20): You love to be a team player, while at the same time enjoying your independence. You can be impossible to work with since if it isn’t fun, you don’t want to do it! You are breaking some serious ground now, and the uplift you are receiving is working miracles. Keep going, and keep that winning grin!
Capricorn (December 21 – January 21): You may be negotiating a contract or settling a legal matter now. If that’s the case, be sure you have everything wrapped up within the next week; Mercury goes retrograde later this month and you know what that means! As new projects pop up, you want to consider them carefully, but also move swiftly. Don’t have any dragging anchors.
Aquarius (January 22 – February 20): So many changes are already beginning, and you are thinking furiously about how to keep up. You may even be the one instigating the changes, much to the dismay of those around you. Don’t rock the boat! As much as possible, state your intentions clearly and concisely and be sure that others really understand. Don’t be vague.
Pisces (February 21 – March 20): This isn’t the time to be a martyr; if you are engaged in a losing battle, double check to make sure the battle is worth it in the first place. Not that you are a warmonger; quite the opposite. But you do crave a sense of peace that you don’t necessarily want to have to maintain every second. Listen to the wisdom of your closest friends and associates now and wait for more info.
