Despite Heat, Marengo PD Kept the Lid On in July

MARENGO - The Marengo Police Department report of calls made in July showed, in general, that Marengo is a pretty quiet place to live. There were three arrests made and although there was one missing persons report, there was also one missing person located - presumably not a coincidence. Sixty verbal warnings were given by the department and two public service talks were given.

Official papers were served six times during the month. Twenty seven calls were made for citizen assistance and 20 for city assistance. The department made 68 return calls and delivered 17 messages. There was one call on a transient, three reports of a suspicious car, one report of a suspicious person and 28 calls on animals. There were 11 dog pound calls.

Four ordinance citations and seventeen uniform citation were given. There were 142 investigation of contacts and 110 administrative contacts. There were three medical assists, 24 motorist assists, three police/sheriff assists and 16 Iowa County Sheriff’s assists. There were 21 incidences of a civil dispute/complaint. There were forty four citizens complaints.

There was one incident of interfering with official acts. There were two assault and two domestic calls, five harassment and three fight calls reported. Three possession of alcohol calls were reported as well as one public intoxication, one possession of a controlled substance, one possession of drug paraphernalia and one consent to search. There was one incident of a hang-up call to 911.


Two burglaries and eight theft calls were reported. One theft was solved. There were four bad checks reported. There were 12 incidences of recovering property and 10 in which property was returned. There were four lost and found incidents. There were seven calls for vandalism with one vandalism case solved. One call was made on an alarm. Two incidents of an open door were reported along with eight noise complaints.


There were 14 traffic complaints and two accidents. There was one call for traffic control and one towed vehicle. Two cases of driving while a license was suspended, revoked or barred and two hit and run calls were reported. Two open container and three OWI calls were reported. There were five parking complaints, 2 parking tickets and ten car unlocks reported.

There was one storm watch. Thirteen ambulance calls were made and there were three funeral escorts.
